What is Driver CPC?
The Driver CPC is for LGV (C1, C1+E, C or C+E licence) and PCV (D1, D1+E, D, D+E licence) drivers who drive professionally throughout the UK. It has been designed to improve the knowledge and skills of professional LGV and PCV drivers throughout their working life. There are two parts to the legislation:
CPC Qualification
- The Initial Qualification must be achieved by new LGV and PCV drivers along with their vocational licence to enable them to use their licence professionally.
- Periodic Training; 35 hours of training every 5 years must be attended by all professional drivers.

The Driver CPC Module 4 Practical Safety Demonstration Test
The Driver CPC module 4 practical safety demonstration test is conducted in accordance with the provisions of EU Directive 2003/59/EC, The Vehicle Drivers (Certificates of Professional Competence) Regulations 2007 and The Motor Vehicles (Driving Licences) Regulations.
Western Driver Training has provided the training for the Module 4 test since day one. We have now been approved as a DVSA Test Centre for Module 4 testing, and can now offer test without the need to travel to Bristol or Swindon.
The practical safety demonstration test is a stand-alone practical test of 30 minutes duration focussing on vehicle safety and security. The object of the test is to ensure that the candidate has a sound knowledge of the test subject areas and can show this in a practical way.
Candidates will be asked to demonstrate their knowledge and ability in the following subject areas:
- Ability to load the vehicle with due regard for safety rules and proper vehicle use
- Security of the vehicle and contents
- Ability to prevent criminality and trafficking in illegal immigrants
- Ability to assess emergency situations
- Ability to prevent physical risk
